8xfeet Gears Of War

Oh yes, for Xmas I got an XBOX-360. Here's Gears Of War projected onto my 8xfeet screen in High Definition.

This is kool. The 360 can now replace my old-pc as the media box. Once we get it wireless enabled and hooked upto XBOX-Live we can have some online gaming fun. Come on round!

Seattle

For Xmas M and I headed down to Seattle to catch up with friends and check out the old town. We had a brilliant time and want to thank all our fantastically-ace--wonderful friends (you know who you are) for celebrating the holidays with us. Thanks!

We headed around town to our fave places and met some old characters, faces and icons of the city. That was the greatest. I'll post some pictures of these adventures soon, but in the meantime here's some scenery shots of Seattle.

Reiver Update !!!

Get this! Our friends came around for dinner the other night. She works for WildLife Rescue and to my delight she gave me a copy of the Reivers file. WoW! He's doing good, recovering well and ... get this ... I can go down and watch the release of him. Woah! No doubt the release will be filmed and added to the blog.

So how's he been? It turns out he didn't have broken wings but had a major concussion, presumably he was blown into something during the highwinds. He had internal bleeding, a wound in his mouth and was moderately dehydrated.

* 12/16 - 10:35 - Bleeding stopped, feisty, dehydrated - 820g
* 12/16 - 17:15 - Still feisty, not drinking, not eating - 810g
* 12/17 - 09:30 - On medication, not eating, not drinking - 790g
* 12/18 - 09:30 - Calming down, still not eating - 780g
* 12/19 - 05:40 - Feisty, eating and drinking - 790g
* 12/20 - 10:00 - Doing better, eating and drinking - 804g

Saving The Seagull

Two nights ago we had some fierce winds whipping through the Pacific NorthWest. Now, I'm no stranger to high winds after witnessing the roaring gails blasting down from Greenland over England - but I have to say these were the mightiest winds I've experienced.

I awoke in the night, cracked the blinds and watched the trees flail. "Woah!". After I could stand up no more I opened the blinds, crawled back into bed and watched the storm from the comfort of my warm blankets. Now that's luxury.

Next day the news reported the after-math. 200,000 people without power, chaos at the traffic lights, forget going to school. How about forget going to work?

Heading down the road checking out the damage I came across this poor bird on the sidewalk. It's wings obviously broken, as it desperately tried to fly. It had a look in it's eye and a manner that seemed to say "Bugger, my wings are bloody broken!" I felt really bad for it, so I dashed of to work to call the animal shelter.

Now, it's been my experience that a friend in need is a friend indeed. There's been times where the compassion of perfect strangers have come to my aid. So for me, this poor bird needed some help and I've learnt the lesson of how we all depend on one-another.

Arriving at work, I entered 'situation commander' mode and mobilised help for the bird. Firing up Google I got the numbers. First I contacted animal rescue but their power was out. Next, I contacted the emergency number, yes! someone answered. Now the dilemma - Do they care about seagulls? Are they pissed off they steal their french-fries at Granville Island? No! they cared! The dude took down the details - location, my contact info and I asked him to call me back with an update. He said "I will!, but sometimes they get blown around in the wind and he might not be there, but I''ll look around the gardens if he's missing" .. 10 minutes later! 10 minutes later! Flash-Gordon (my new name for the animal dude) was on the phone "Hey Kormacurry, I've got him, he's OK. I'm taking him off to the animal shelter". Nice one Flash! The bird was saved and off for some re-habilitation.

I've named the bird REIVER, after my old-skool posse back in the borderlands of England/Scotland. Flash gave me the number for the animal shelter, so I think I'll be checking in on Reiver and posted updates on his recovery!

It's Christmas-s-s-s!

I'm starting to think this jetlag thing is brilliant for productivity. I go to bed around 8pm and wake up at 4am, hours before the world awakes. Today, after a cup of coffee we decided to decorate our xmas tree. Out came the xmas boxes and we got stuck in. An hour later, we'd finished - so we sat and admired our work in the morning darkness. lol.

Checking Out The Snow

We awoke nice and early this morning thanks to the continuing jetlag saga. As daylight broke we decided to head up into the mountains to check out the snow. Ascending through the clouds floating bye, we ooo'ed and ahhh'ed at the snowy kingdom before pulling over in the ski-resort car park to take a few pictures and have a snow-ball fight. After a littlle while the temperature rose and down came the rain. So it was good-bye mountains, and hello nice warm coffee shop on Commercial Drive.

Trying To Get Comfy

We spotted this dude trying to get comfy on the plane over to England. I just couldn't stop myself from taking these photos ... lol

'Ahhh, those suckers are all cramped up back in their chairs'

'.. It's like being in my own bed at home ...'

'.. err, maybe not''..

'.. now we're talking, this is luxury'

Well folks we arrived back in Canada tonight. The flight back was smooth & uneventful ... just the way I like them :) We had a fantastic vacation filled with double>good adventures. That said, it's nice to be back in our own house. There's snow on the ground, the house is freezing ... the radient heat it set to full so all will be toasty and warm soon.

Alrighty, time for sleep. Goodnight!
