Farmers Market - eatlocal.org

Today we awoke to a rainy Vancouver day. Not to worry, we carried on with our plans to head down the street to our local farmers market. We love going down picking up our fave cheeses, organic veg and more often than not - coffee & cinnamon bun.

Today was a real treat because we picked up THE most amazing tasting grapes ever. They're grown in Kelowna - presumably for wine. They're super sweet, soft and melt in your mouth .. mmm-mmm. We also spotted a fuscia tree that we're going to pick up next week and plant in the garden. Next week is the last market of the season.

DJ Krush

A bunch of us from the office headed down to the Commodore the other night to check out Japanese DJ Krush. Good times chatting, enjoying brewskies, checking out the super_kool Japanese kids and absorbing the wall of beats bouncing around the place.

Me and the Dubmaster checked him out last year, and this year was notably different - no melodys, no synths just pure beats <-> pure bass. Yeah, good times.

Mountain High

A day off. Tired of the air conditioning, tired of the heat and tired of hardware whirring away - I said "Let's take a walk in the mountains". So off we went in the KormaCurry>>Mobile to Cypress mountain.

0.33 of the way up with Epic Views ...

Start Of The Trail. Oh the excitement of boarding soon ...

Enjoying the silence, the air, the trees ....

Getting hungry, why did we not pack a lunch?

They'd probably not be tasty ....

Ahhh, a lovely sub-alpine lake ...

Flipping the camera over to Ansel Adamas mode ...

A lovely walk in the mountains. Lots of deep breathing, some stretching then it was straight to the nearest place with tasty lunch :)

The Enemies of Stefan Avalos

Here's Mr G's new band. We had the CD listening party this weekend, and we like it a lot.

Be sure to check out their mySpace site >> CLICK ME << to be teleported to The Enemies mySpace site.

West Seattle In The House

Good times this weekend as our good friends Mr & Mrs G came for a visit. Always fab to see these dudes and we did some serious catching up, exchanging stories and happy times.

M made a lovely meal, then it was off downtown to watch a perfect AC/DC (Thunderstruck) cover band at the Commodore.

After realizing we couldn't talk, we busted out of there and headed over to Taft's for some tasty Sangria. We then headed down to my office so they could check out the view and enjoy a few drinks. One thing led to another, out came turntables, the Led Zep and we mixed up GrandMaster Flash whilst M beat boxed, I scratched - and all laughed. We closed the night down in the early hours. LOL!

Next day we head down to Punjab Village and then down to Granville Island, for a stroll and some lunch. Great times, we love these dudes!

Cuz, Their Red Hot And Chilli

The Red Hot Chilli Peppers rolled into town last week and Oz hooked us up with some great tickets.

I'll keep this one brief ... AWESOME! They dipped into their back catalogue and cherry picked some of our fave tunes and brought the house down. Fantastic!

Then came the encore, and the 15 minute self-indulgent jam sesssion commenced. Huddled in a tight circle they noodled away obviously having a great time whilst the audience got bored and uninterested. Bad ending - for sure.

Duty Now For The Future

I was lucky enough to have a couple of cool older brothers playing some sweet albums around the house. Devo's - Duty Now For The Future was always in heavy rotation on the old turntable. Here's a classic from that album.

SWANK

After a late shift at the office, I called M up and told her "Get your dancing shoes on!", where heading out toThe Main for some good times.

Off we trotted through the neighbourhood over to The Main. (CLICK ME for the Main website) My new fave place. Great restaurant/bar serving great food. Saturday nights they have a band playing and tonight it was SWANK. We got a table right next to the stage (the place seats about 40 pople) and settled down for a great night.

CLICK ME to check out SWANK's mySpace site. I like these guys a lot

A real treat, and here's their video ..

Spa Utopia

M booked me in for an hour long massage at Spa Utopia yesterday. Off I went from work for my relaxation adventure...

What a swanky place! I was greated by a very a relaxed lady who gave me an introduction to the place, then showed me to the changing rooms. "Feel free to enjoy a sauna before your massage". I was running a little late so I declinded and took a mental note - "if I enjoy this ... I'll have one next time"

After changing into my robe and slipping on nice pair of sandals, I headed back to the rendezvous point where I was greeted by my masseur. Getting situated in the chamber of relaxation I was given a choice of 4 oils. After opting for the Indian spice, she gave me an orchid to remember my experience here. "Nice!"

The session started. Deadlines, bugs, C++ drifted away and over the horizon came a vessel filled with relaxation, re-juvination and vibrancy.

The session ended, and I was offered me a choice of wine, water, juice. "Got any Redstripe? - LOL". I chose the water, "Lemon & Cumber with that?". Interesting. "Just Lemon please!". After delivering the water she showed me to a lounge where I was instructed to "Relax, enjoy yourself to the refreshments and fruit". Very Nice!. So, I sat there for a while in this fab room, eating and drinking the fruit. Carefully enjoying my time there, I thought to myself - how good is this? excellent. Thanks M!

Southern Puffs

My friend from London invited me to his house-warming party yesterday. A good adventure started by taking the sea-bus over to the North Shore. There was so many people from England there, it just wasn't funny. LOL.

All the classic hallmarks of a Brit-party was present .. lots to drink, a table full of awesome puddings (yum!), lots of roudy people. Good times. We all had a laugh, took the p*ss out of one another (great British Pastime). The sun fell, the crowd thinned and out came the guitars for a jam-session.

We all had a good laugh.

Finally, A Day Off

Someone once said to me ... "All work and no play, makes KormaCurry a dull boy". Well I reached that point and decided it was time for a day off. Rolling out of bed around 11am, I watered the garden and drank coffee. B rolled up with some pastries and we hung out with Oz in his garden. Delightfullness over, Oz and I decided to ride down to Stanley Park along the seawall - which was - just about perfect.

We got back, I cracked open the Red Stripe and slapped on the Easy All Stars reggae version of OK Computer. We sat there relaxing and chatting. Ahhh, sun, tasty beer - good tunes.

Oz took off because his band was playing at the P.N.E. He invited me down, and I gladly accepted. After a nice nap, I headed down there - only not to find his band, and came home!

He came back, and invited me down to The Commodore to watch Zero-7, a groovy London Band. Great show, great music.

Vashti Bunyan

M's on a roadtrip, so I'm here on my jack-jones (alone). The DubMaster invited me out to the Vashti Bunyan show. So we piled down to Richards on Richards to catch the show. What a treat! A total sweetheart, with amazing delicate songs. (If your big on The Exploited, you won't like her). But me, partial to acoustic, a lover of cello - I really enjoyed it. All the way through her set, she was constantly surprised everyone was loving her songs. Which is not because they aren't good :) because they are. She was really sweet. Click Me for her Wikipedia site.

1:45am - The Venue

Me & my mates used to all head down to The Venue in Manchester every Friday night. Dj Leo played an indie set, and apart from playing the same songs at the same time every week - it was ace! This one always reminds me of us all dancing to Joy Division in the last 15 minutes of the night. He used to cram in the Joy Division before everyone piled off to the chippy, then catching the bus home. LOL!

The poet at the beginning and end is a Manchester poet called John Cooper Clarke. The verse he's rattling off is called "Chicken Town". We used to play that at home and laugh, and tease my Dad that it sounded like him. hhehehehe
